Scientists discovered a new liver & kidney disease

Scientists at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom have discovered a new inherited condition that causes liver and kidney failure in children and adults. The condition named as TULP3- is related to ciliopathy. This discovery is really very helpful for those patients who are suffering from unexplained liver and kidney problems.

There are various reasons behind kidney and liver failure that could be life-threatening if remains untreated. But in general, the patients do not get a proper diagnosis of their liver and kidney problem which make their treatment process unsuccessful.

The new disease, TULP3 related to ciliopathy is a condition that is already prevalent in the existing patients with kidney and liver failures. It is a genetic condition that could help scientists detect the underlying reasons behind liver or kidney failure.

A research published in the American Journal of Human Genetics stated that a faulty gene is a catalyst for increased fibrosis in the liver & kidney that often results in the urgent need for liver & kidney transplantation. The research found that many patients are suffering from this new condition, mainly found in those who are already suffering from kidney & liver problems.

Professor John Sayer, who is working as a Deputy Dean of Clinical Medicine at Newcastle University said that their findings have a huge impact on the better diagnosis and the management of liver and kidney ailments. He further said that “now they are able to give a particular diagnosis to some patients, which allows doctors to cater the best treatment for their patients and this opens the door for the best possible outcome.

The researchers from the Newcastle University of the United Kingdom have said that they will now work on the cell lines taken from the patients to do more research in detail about the process of the disease and to examine the potential treatments for TULP3 related to ciliopathy.
