Is High Creatinine Reversible?

Creatinine is a chemical waste product of muscles metabolism. The kidneys help remove creatinine from the blood along with the urine. But if it is present more in the blood and less in the urine, it signifies problem in the renal functioning. Creatinine buildup in the blood only if person has a kidney problem or taking too much protein in their diet, exercising a lot, and taking too many supplements.

Doctors use a creatinine measurement test to know how well the kidneys are functioning. Though it is not life-threatening, if the blood has exceeding levels of creatinine for a persistent time it can indicate chronic kidney disease.

Yes, high creatinine levels can be reversed easily. Also, ayurvedic medicines are taken by patients to reduce creatinine level naturally. There are some lifestyle and dietary changes which can be taken to reverse creatinine levels.

What can be the possible causes of high creatinine?

The numerous causes resulting in elevated levels of creatinine include:

  • Certain medications including some antibiotics and NSAIDs
  • Creatinine supplements
  • A high intake of protein
  • Strenuous or intense exercise routine
  • Impaired kidney function
  • Low blood flow
  • Dehydration
  • Cold and infection
  • Fever

Cancer, related to the kidneys such as prostate can also increase the risk of elevated creatinine levels due to kidney damage.

If creatinine is caused by kidney damage, the following could be the possible causes:

  • Diabetes
  • Tumors
  • Some infections, such as hepatitis b and c, HIV, and syphilis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Glomerulonephritis

Diabetes can affect the kidney function severely and reduces the kidney’s ability to function and remove waste like creatinine.

The glomerulus is a part of the kidney’s filters through which the blood passes for filtration. Normally glomerulus does well, but in the event of damage, they cannot work as efficiently as they need to.

The healthy creatinine range in the blood in men is between 0.6-1.2 while in women it is 0.5-1.2. Men have more muscle mass so they have higher creatinine range than women.

How to reverse high creatinine levels?

A person can make changes in the creatinine levels if some dietary measures are followed such as:

Cutting back on protein : Red meat we particularly consume is the muscle tissue of the animal which contains creatine. When it is cooked, creatine gets converted into creatinine and when we consume it, the body gets more creatinine and so the level rises.

In order to reverse creatinine, one should consume less protein mainly from the animal sources. Instead, you can switch to vegetable sources such as grains, pulses, beans, etc and include them in your diet. This will help meet your protein requirement while preventing kidney damage.

Drinking more water: Dehydration hinders the kidney’s capacity to function properly and eliminate waste. When you drink less fluid, urine may not be passed properly and the toxins like creatinine will remain more in the blood than the urine. If you don’t like to drink plain water, try fizzy water or add some lemon or mint leaves to give it a tangy taste. Herbal teas can also be taken to meet your fluid intake, but do not over consume it.

Increasing fiber: Dietary fiber can offer a lot of benefits when it comes to kidney function. It has been found that consuming fiber in the form of fruits, vegetables, seeds, grains, etc helps improve kidney function over time.

Consider herbal medicines: Herbs such as Salvia play an important role in reversing creatinine levels. Herbal medicines which are made from the organic herbs and rare spices work holistically on the health. They help strengthen the kidney function so that creatinine can be removed naturally.

Consuming diuretics: Diuretics help to remove excess fluid. By helping prevent fluid retention, they elude the swelling in the body. But diuretics can also raise creatinine levels with an increased risk of kidney disease.
