Foods that are Harmful to Kidney

Food is the most nourishing substance that is consumed by the human being. We all eat food according to its taste, appearance and the smell. Food provides us with many benefits that give energy, provide good growth, and help in building a better immunity. This food may vary in the classification of plants and animals. Plant produced food is known as vegetarian while animal based food is described as non vegetarian. Food in any way, is said to be the fuel for our body. But while talking about our kidney there are certain foods that must bhi strictly prohibited or controlled in order to lead a healthy life. Kidneys are an important organ that works continuously in order to clean the waste and toxins from the body.

 

Our food is full of different agents, vitamins and even minerals which may or may not be helpful for our kidneys. Kidneys being the sensitive one, require a food that may help in better functioning of the kidneys. Every food has its own properties and here we would discuss some of the most harmful eatables that may damage or impair the working of the kidneys.

Extra presence of potassium, protein, magnesium, caffeine, sodium etc. can be harmful for the kidneys. For keeping kidneys healthier and in a better working condition, limiting certain food items can be a revolutionary method for our kidneys. Improved diet can keep our kidneys healthier for a longer time. A kidney friendly diet also reduces the chances of any kidney disease.

Some harmful foods that are not good for your kidneys are -

1. Sugar and soda based drinks -

Sugar is known as white and sweet poison, when we discuss about the health. Such drinks, like packed juices, cold drinks and even so called energy drinks are full of sugar and preservatives, that affect the working of the kidneys in the long term. These drinks do not consist of any required nutrients by the body, and ultimately leading to diabetes followed by kidney problems.

2. Fruits and vegetables rich in potassium -

Excess of Potassium in the body can be difficult for the kidneys to filter. It is important for us to regulate the amount we consume. Bananas are fruits rich in potassium, and if one has any kidney problems avoid consuming large amounts of bananas in the diet. Same goes with avocados, yes an avocado is delicious and creamy. One cannot imagine a toast without avocado spread, the flavour is savoring.

But not too much consumption is good. An Average shaped avocado is filled with potassium, moreover 690 milligrams. This amount is not very healthy only if avocado is consumed daily.

If you are a kidney patient or may notice any impairments in the kidney avoid eating high potassium food, such as avocado, banana and guacamole.

3. Canned and packed foods -

Who doesn't love a big packet of our favourite chips and salsa. Sounds wonderful right ? But not for the health, these packets are full of sodium and unhealthy chemicals and preservatives that could end up being very harmful for the kidneys. Canned foods are the same as packed foods. Canned beans, tomatoes, canned non veg taste perfect for the morning breakfast. These are added and preserved in salt and sugar to keep it fresh and consumable for longer times. Avoiding and limiting these canned foods is very important, as they do not provide the right amount of nutrients and are harmful for the health in all the ways.

4. Sodium rich diet -

Salt is known as the most dangerous food for the kidneys. High amounts of salt can damage the kidneys and could lead to some serious kidney injury. Salt and sodium rich food is also one of the prominent reasons for hypertension or high blood pressure. Which if not treated on time causes kidney diseases.

Taking salt other than in cooked goods is not a good habit as it can lead to acute kidney disease and chronic kidney disease, which is really difficult to cure.

These are the list of some of the harmful foods that must be limited in order to keep kidneys healthy. Other foods such as, fresh fruits and vegetables are considered healthy for the kidneys and must be consumed regularly.
