HOW CAN AYURVEDA CURE PATIENTS OF NEPHROTIC SYNDROME?

Nephrotic syndrome refers to a group of symptoms occurring when the kidney function is partially left. The symptoms that may appear at the time of nephrotic syndrome include:

  • A low level of protein in the blood
  • A high protein level in the blood
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Swelling in the body
  • High levels of triglycerides

Patients with nephrotic syndrome can take Ayurvedic medicines treatment to control this disorder and rejuvenate the natural flow of the body.

Proteins are the essentials of our body, helping us regulate blood pressure and making the bones and muscles healthy and strong. Besides, this the proteins also help in protecting the body against the immune system infections. But the elimination of protein called albumin because of the unhealthy kidneys can raise the risk of developing high blood pressure and kidney failure eventually.

An excess loss of albumin due to albuminuria can make the body lose fluids resulting in the swelling of the legs, feet, and ankles. Nephrotic syndrome can also raise the risk of heart attacks by increasing cholesterol levels in the blood. The unhealthy kidneys are not able to remove cholesterol, the excess of which is not needed by the body.

The signs of nephrotic syndrome

The signs and symptoms in the late stages of protein loss may include:
  • Severe swelling particularly around the eyes and in your ankles and feet
  • Foamy urine, which may be caused by excess protein in your urine
  • Weight gain due to excess fluid retention
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite

The possible causes of nephrotic syndrome

Nephrotic syndrome is brought about by the conditions resulting because of damage to the tiny vessels of the kidneys called glomeruli. The glomeruli(s) are responsible for passing the blood for filtration and separating the waste from therein while keeping the minerals needed by the body. Healthy glomeruli keep the albumin needed to maintain the right amount of fluid and to prevent them from seeping along with the urine. When damaged, the glomeruli allow the albumin to skip along with the filters, making the body short of proteins and leading nephrotic syndrome.

The conditions prompting nephrotic syndrome include:
  • Diabetic kidney disease. Uncontrolled diabetes for a long time can cause nephrotic syndrome in adults and children.
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus. It is an inflammatory disease that harms the kidneys.
  • Minimal change disease. Minimal Change Disease is a change in kidney function, but it is hard to get diagnosed under the microscope. There is no possible cause of Minimal change disease known till date.
  • Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. FSGS is the scarring of the tissues of the glomeruli. The condition occurs because of some genetic condition and has no other reason.
  • Membranous nephropathy. It is the thickening of the membrane within the glomeruli. Sometimes the condition is known to be associated with medical conditions, such as hepatitis B, malaria, lupus, and cancer.
  • A blood clot in a kidney vein. Renal vein thrombosis is a blood clot in the veins connected to the kidneys resulting in the protein loss.

Risk factors for nephrotic syndrome include:

  • Medical conditions that can damage your kidneys: Sometimes diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease can also result in albumin loss.
  • Certain medications: NSAIDs and analgesics are some of the medicines the excess consumption of which can cause protein loss.
  • Certain infections: Such as HIV, Hepatitis B, and C.

Diagnosing nephrotic syndrome

The tests and procedures may include urine and blood sample to know how much albumin is present in the blood and the urine. Apart from that, the doctor will also do a kidney biopsy to check for the exact cause of kidney disease.
